Resilient Flooring

Resilient Plank or Tile Flooring is a great option for some.  It is economical, highly water resistant, easy to clean, and pet friendly as a result.  It has less cost associated with it when a floating application is used as it can eliminate the need for costly adhesives, and when materials are chosen with integrated vapor barrier/sound suppression padding, it can eliminate the need to purchase those materials separately.
While maintaining temperature in the home is still a consideration, the range is significantly increased when compared to hardwoods.  Relative humidity does not affect these materials either.
Many salespeople will tell you that water does not affect these products.  While it is true that is will only result in minute, negligible dimensional changes in the material, it does not mean that they can completely withstand flood damage to the home.  Mold and mildew growth underneath the finished flooring are still concerns in these circumstances, and will need to be addressed immediately by a qualified water restoration team.  In some instances, floating resilient flooring can be removed and reinstalled, however with an adhered application often the adhesive will be effected by the water intrusion and a replacement of the damaged section will have to be done.
It is still a better option for certain applications, and can look amazing!
